Rs 2000 notes Exchange: The Reserve Bank Of India on Monday said that 97.38 per cent of Rs 2,000 notes have been returned since May 2023, the day the decision was taken to withdraw Rs 2,000 notes. As per RBI out of Rs 3.56 lakh crore in circulation at the close of business on May 19, 2023, Rs 9,330 crore has not been deposited yet.
RBI in a statement said that the total value of Rs 2,000 notes in circulation fell to Rs 9,330 crore at the close of business on December 29, 2023, which was Rs 3.56 lakh crore at the close of business on May 19, 2023. Thus, 97.38 per cent of Rs 2,000 notes have been returned.

Citizens can exchange Rs 2,000 notes at 19 RBI centres across the country. The exchange was started on May 19, 2023.
Rs 2000 notes can be exchanged in RBI's Centre
Earlier, the Central Bank announced the withdrawal of 2,000 rupee notes from circulation. Facility to deposit and/or redeem Rs 2,000 notes in banks was allowed until October 7, 2023, at all bank branches in the country. Then after, RBI issuing offices accept Rs 2,000 notes.
According to RBI, people within the country send Rs 2,000 notes through India Post to the RBI issuing offices from any post office in the country for credit to their bank accounts.
