Stock Market Today: The key domestic stock market fell more than 2 per cent on Friday after a two-day rally, following a weaker trend in global markets. The decline comes as the U.S.-Iran conflict continues to put a major drag on markets and raises doubts about the escalation of the war.

Crude oil prices remained above $105 per barrel, with the continued depreciation of the rupee and steady foreign capital outflows adding to the pressure.

The 30-share BSE Sensex fell 1,690.23 points, or 2.25 per cent, to 73,583.22. The previous session declined by 1,739.04 points or 2.31 per cent to 73,534.41 points.

Nifty50 ended the session 486.85 points, or 2.09 per cent down to 22,819.60.

Top Losers and Gainers

Except for Tata Consultancy Services, Bharti Airtel and Power Grid, all other stocks from the Sensex basket were settled in red with Reliance Industries, InterGlobe Aviation, Bajaj Finance, State Bank of India, Eternal and HDFC Bank being the top losers.

Crude Price Rise

Amid the heightening geopolitical conditions, crude prices soared significantly, with Brent crude trading at $108-$110 per barrel.

Rupee Hits Fresh All-Time Low

Continuing its free-fall amid persistent FII outflow from the domestic equity market, the rupee tanked 86 paise to close at yet another all-time low of 94.82 (provisional) against the US dollar on Friday.

Weak Global Cues

In Asian markets, South Korea's Kospi and Japan's Nikkei 225 fell. Meanwhile, Shanghai's SSE Composite and Hong Kong's Hang Seng Index turned positive.

European markets traded lower. The US market closed sharply lower on Thursday.

"Profit booking set in after the recent two-session rally as the rupee fell to an all-time low amid sustained FII selling, while escalating tensions in the Middle East heightened caution among investors ahead of the weekend," Vinod Nair, Head of Research, Geojit Investments Limited, said.

On Wednesday, the Sensex rose 1,205 points (1.63 per cent) to 75,273.45. The Nifty rose 394.05 points (1.72 per cent) to close at 23,306.45.
