The stock market benchmarks Sensex and Nifty climbed sharply in early trade on Wednesday.
The 30-share BSE Sensex jumped 1,046.13 points to close at 79,639.20. The NSE Nifty gained 313.9 points to settle at 24,306.45.

Infosys, Ultratech Cement, Maruti, JSW Steel,  Adani Ports, and HCL Technologies were the biggest gainers among the 30 Sensex companies. Asian Paints, Bharti Airtel,  Kotak Mahindra Bank, and Titan were losers.

Asian markets also traded in positive territory, with Seoul, Tokyo, Shanghai, and Hong Kong all significantly higher. U.S. markets ended higher on Tuesday.

Foreign institutional investors offloaded equity worth Rs 3,531.24 crore on Tuesday, according to exchange data. DIIs bought equity worth Rs 3,357.45 crore on Tuesday. Brent crude, the global benchmark, rose 0.14 percent to $76.59 a barrel.

The benchmark BSE fell 166.33 points, or 0.21 percent, to settle at 78,593.07 for the third consecutive day of decline on Tuesday. Similarly, the Nifty fell 63.05 points or 0.26 percent to settle at 23,992.55 below the 24,000 level.

The rupee traded in a narrow range on Wednesday morning, as a strengthening U.S. dollar in overseas markets offset support from positive domestic equities. The local unit opened at 83.86 rupees on the interbank foreign exchange market but soon pared gains to trade at 83.92 rupees, unchanged from its previous close.
