The Indian stock market was trading higher in the early trade on the back of value buying post a sharp decline for most of the session last week. At the time of writing, Sensex, the 30-share index of BSE, traded 342.02 points higher at 74,899.76, while the Nifty50 was up 88.55 points to 23,240.95.
Meanwhile, in early trade, the 30-share BSE index declined 179.31 points to 74,384.61, and Nifty50 fell by 53.1 points to 23,098. However, later, both the key benchmark indices rebounded.
Top Gainers And Losers
UltraTech Cement, Tata Steel, Indigo, State Bank of India, HDFC Bank, Bajaj Finance, Adani Ports, and ITC were among the biggest gainers from the Sensex basket. On the other hand, Bharat Electronics, Infosys, Mahindra & Mahindra, Trent and TCS were trading lower.
International Market And Brent Crude
Asian markets like South Korea's benchmark Kospi, Japan's Nikkei 225 index and Shanghai's SSE Composite index were trading lower on March 16, while Hong Kong's Hang Seng was trading higher. The US market ended lower on Friday.
Oil price remained high amid tension in the energy supply from middle east through the Strait of Hormuz. Brent crude jumped 1 per cent to trade at USD 104.2 per barrel in the morning.
Meanwhile, Indian currency stayed weak and lost 13 paise to 92.43 against the US dollar in early trade on March 16. The decline caused by the massive withdrawal of foreign funds and surging crude oil prices amid middle east crisis.
