Stock Market Today: A day after registering a strong rally, the equity benchmark indices, Sensex and Nift,y experienced a decline in early trading on Tuesday due to the emergence of profit-taking. In early trading, the 30-share BSE benchmark gauge, the Sensex, fell 497.5 points to 81,932.40. At 24,807.50, the NSE Nifty fell 117.2 points.Later, the Nifty traded with a cut of 209.90 points at 24,714.80, while the BSE benchmark index quoted 788.62 points lower at 81,641.28.
Top Losers And Gainers
Among the leading laggards among the Sensex companies were Infosys, Eternal, Kotak Mahindra Bank, HCL Tech, Power Grid, ICICI Bank, Tata Consultancy Services, and Nestle. The winners were Tata Steel, Bajaj Finance, IndusInd Bank, and Sun Pharma.
Hong Kong's Hang Seng quoted lower, while Shanghai's SSE Composite index, Japan's Nikkei 225 index, and South Korea's Kospi were all trading in the positive zone in Asian markets.
Global Markets
US markets ended significantly higher on Monday. The Nasdaq Composite surged 4.35 per cent, S&P 500 jumped 3.26 per cent and Dow Jones Industrial Average climbed 2.81 per cent.
Brent crude, a global oil benchmark, fell 0.23 per cent to USD 64.81 per barrel. Following a day off, exchange data shows that Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) purchased stocks valued at Rs 1,246.48 crore on Monday.
After India and Pakistan agreed to halt military operations and the US and China announced a deal to drastically reduce tariffs, benchmark indices saw their largest one-day gains in absolute terms on Monday, soaring by almost 4%.
On Monday, the 30-share BSE Sensex surged 2,975.43 points, or 3.74 per cent, to close at 82,429.90, a high that has exceeded seven months. The NSE's 50-issue Nifty soared 916.70 points, or 3.82 per cent, to close at 24,924.70.
Rupee Appreciates 74 Paisa
In early trading on Tuesday, the rupee gained 74 paise to 84.62 against the US dollar, helped by hopes that tensions between India and Pakistan would ease and that the US-China trade agreement would be a success.
The domestic unit gained 74 paise over its previous close at the interbank foreign exchange, having opened at 84.70 and dropped to an early low of 84.74 and a high of 84.62 against the US dollar.
