Stock Market Today: The domestic benchmark indices- Sensex and Nifty- Traded flat in the early trade on Thursday. At around 11:07 am, Sensex was at 74,608.61, up 0.01% and Nifty 50 was trading at 22,542.45, down 0.02%. The Nifty opened in positive territory on Thursday but later faced volatile trends due to unrestricted foreign fund inflows, monthly derivatives expiry and weak global market cues.
However, the BSE 30-share index Sensex rose 231.97 points to 74,834.09 in early trade before 10:30 am, while the NSE Nifty closed 65.75 points higher at 22,613.30. Later, the indices faced volatile trends and traded at high and low levels.
Top Gainers- Bajaj Finserv, IndusInd Bank, Axis Bank, Bajaj Finance, Nestle and Tata Steel were trading in positive territory from the Sensex pack.
Top Losers- Among Sensex stocks, Mahindra & Mahindra, UltraTech Cement, HCL Tech, NTPC, Tech Mahindra and Tata Motors were down in early trade.
Foreign institutional investors (FIIs) sold shares worth Rs 3,529.10 crore on Tuesday, exchange data showed. Stock markets were closed on Wednesday on the occasion of 'Mahashivratri'.
Global markets
US markets closed mixed on Wednesday. In Asian markets, Tokyo was quoted positively, while Seoul, Hong Kong and Shanghai were trading lower. Meanwhile, global oil benchmark Brent crude rose 0.33 per cent to $72.77 per barrel.
The Sensex on Tuesday rose 147.71 points, or 0.20 per cent, to settle at 74,602.12. However, the Nifty fell for the sixth day, ending 5.80 points, or 0.03 per cent, down at 22,547.55.
