Stock Market Today: The domestic equity benchmark indices traded in positive territory on Wednesday for the seventh consecutive session following positive Q4 earnings reports, decent foreign fund inflow and a growth outlook. In the morning, Sensex, the 30-share index of BSE, opened at 80,142 against its previous close of 79,596 and rose 659 points, or 0.80 per cent, to the level of 80,254.55 during the opening hour. Nifty 50, the NSE's index, started the trading at 24,358, with a decent gap-up against its previous close of 24,167. The index surged 192 points, or 0.80 per cent, to 24,359 in early trade.
At around 9:55 AM, the Sensex was trading at 80,139.70, up 544 points or 0.68%, while the Nifty 50 was at 24,324.05, up 156.80 points, or 0.65 per cent.
Top gainers: From the Sensex basket, HCL Tech reported an 8.1 per cent rise in consolidated net profit for the March quarter of 2024-25 to Rs. 4,307 crore, mainly on account of total contract value of around Rs. 25,500 crore due to large deals. Tech Mahindra, Tata Motors, Tata Consultancy Services, Infosys and Maruti were also among the top gainers.
Losers: Eternal, Bajaj Finance, HDFC Bank and State Bank of India, which lagged Sensex stocks.
International markets: Most Asian markets are trading in the positive zone, including South Korea's Kospi index, Tokyo's Nikkei 225, Shanghai's SSE Composite and Hong Kong's Hang Seng.
US markets rebounded strongly on Tuesday. The Nasdaq Composite gained 2.71 per cent, the Dow Jones Industrial Average 2.66 per cent and the S&P 500 2.51 per cent.
FII fund inflows
According to exchange data, foreign institutional investors (FIIs) bought equities worth Rs 1,290.43 crore on Tuesday. Global oil benchmark Brent crude rose 0.67 per cent to $67.89 a barrel.
The BSE benchmark index closed 187.09 points, or 0.24 per cent, higher at 79,595.59. The Nifty closed 41.70 points, or 0.17 per cent, higher at 24,167.25.
