Stock Market Today: The domestic equity indices were trading higher in early trade on Tuesday amid firm global cues as the crude oil prices cooled slightly after reports that US President Donald Trump may postpone a potential military strike on Iran. Persistent buying in IT stocks for the past few days has also lifted the sentiment.
At the time of writing, BSE's 30-share index 'Sensex' was trading 388.68 points or 0.52 per cent higher at 75,703.72. Meanwhile, NSE's Nifty50 was quoted at 23,751.80, up 102.75 points or 0.43 per cent.
"FIIs turning buyers, though not a trend yet, is an indication that valuations are becoming attractive in India. Also, the concerns of bubble valuations in AI stocks are increasing. If the FII buying becomes a trend, largecaps in financials, particularly in leading banks, will be the segment to move up since their valuations are attractive and the segment has growth potential," said Dr VK Vijayakumar, Chief Investment Strategist, Geojit Investments Limited.
Brent Crude, the global oil benchmark, fell a bit to $109.8, down $2.28 or 2.03 per cent.
Top Losers And Gainers
Infosys, Tech Mahindra, HCL Tech, TCS, Trent, NTPC, SBI, Bajaj Finance, Reliance, ITC, Mahindra and Mahindra, and Adani Ports were the top gainers. ICICI Bank, Bharti Airtel, Ultratech Cement, Eternal, Titan, and Kotak Bank were the top losers.
Rupee Falls
The Indian currency-- rupee-- continued its losing momentum as it opened with a negative bias amid a strong dollar and rising US treasury yields, and depreciated 18 paise to 96.38 against the US dollar as market sentiments continue to dampen amid simmering tensions between the US and Iran.
