Stock Market Today: The domestic equity market continued the previous session's gaining momentum, traded sharply higher in the early trade on Thursday, amid a value-buying approach. At the time of writing, BSE's 30-share index was trading at 74,935.25, up 326.27 points or 0.44 per cent. Nifty50 quoted at 23,539.05, up 126.45 points or 0.54 per cent.
Today's momentum was driven by buying in banking shares and positive sentiment in Asian markets amid optimism surrounding the ongoing US-China Summit. Earlier, in the opening hour, Sensex jumped 450.51 points, or 0.60 per cent, to 75,059.49 in early trade, while Nifty50 advanced 169.95, or 0.73 per cent, to 23,582.55.
"Indian equity markets opened on a cautiously positive note, although sentiment remained guarded amid mixed global cues and ongoing geopolitical uncertainty. Investors continue to closely monitor developments surrounding the U.S.–Iran tensions and their potential impact on global energy markets," said Ponmudi R, CEO of Enrich Money.
"A key development supporting sentiment is the reported agreement between the U.S. and China that no nation should impose shipping tolls in the Strait of Hormuz, signalling efforts to maintain stability in one of the world’s most critical energy transit routes. While the development has provided some temporary relief to global markets, broader geopolitical concerns continue to keep overall risk appetite subdued," Ponmudi said.
