New Delhi | Jagran Sports Desk: A 16-year-old boy from Ghaziabad has created a world record by scoring 585 runs in 167 deliveries during a 40-over match in the 19th Shaheed Ramprasad Bismil Smriti Open Cricket Tournament at the Dewan Cricket Ground.

Playing for Mahi Cricket Club, Swastik Chikara scored 585 runs in 167 balls with 52 sixes and 55 fours. Earlier, South Africa's Shane Dadswell made this record by scoring 490 runs in a 50-over match 2017.

In the same match, Mahi Cricket Club also made a club cricket world record of the highest team score by making 704 in a limited-overs match. Earlier this record was held by the United Club team. In 2006, the United Club scored 630 runs in a 45-over match against the Bay Area in Richmond California, USA.

Mahi Cricket Club’s opener 16-year-old Swastik hit a world record by scoring 585 runs in 40 overs with the help of 52 sixes and 55 fours off 167 balls. At the same time, he has become the youngest batsman in the world to make this record. Earlier this record was held by Shane Dadswell of South Africa, who achieved this feat at the age of 20. Dadswell scored 490 runs in the 50-over match against Porse Drop Club in 2017, playing for North-West University Puke in the South African city of Potchefstroom. In this match, his team won by 387 runs

 

Swastik holds the record of scoring the most runs in India earlier also. He had scored 356 runs from 148 balls in a 40-over match earlier.

Swastik, hailing from Khedi Asra village in Jhajjar district of Haryana, has lived in Ataur Nangla (Rajnagar Extension), Ghaziabad since childhood. His father Surendra Chikara is employed in Delhi Police. The father himself is fond of cricket. He thought of making his hobby the career of his son Swastik and gave him a bat at the age of four.

 

In the ongoing league tournament in Ghaziabad, Swastik has a record of 585 runs and many other records. Earlier, in addition to the open cricket tournament, he has scored 22 double centuries and seven triple centuries in the Under-14 and Under-16 tournaments. According to his father, Swastik has so far scored more than 100 centuries in the open cricket tournament. Swastik has done UPCA under-16 camp twice in the year 2018 and 2019. Swastik's dream is to join the Indian team.
