New Delhi | Jagran Sports Desk: Former team India captain MS Dhoni on Monday completed his 15 years in international cricket. The right-handed batsman had made his debut on this day in 2004 against Bangladesh-- in which he got run out for a duck. Even though the did not witness a good start in his international career, he flourished and went on to score 17,266 runs across all formats of the game. The 38-year-old has 829 dismissals behind the stumps to his credit.
Hailed as the best finisher in world cricket, MS Dhoni has brought many laurels to the country. He has led India in the inaugural T20 World Cup, 2011 Cricket World Cup and 2013 Champions Trophy, emerging as the winner in all three ICC tournaments-- Only skipper in World cricket to win all three titles. On the batting front, he gave birth to the famous 'helicopter shot' and wicket-keeping skills-- which is different as compared to any other in the world.
Under his leadership, India reached No.1 in Test cricket and ODI cricket. He himself has featured in the ICC rankings for several years. He continues to play ODI and T20I cricket after retiring from Tests in 2014. However, his position in the squad has been questioned after India's defeat against New Zealand in the semi-final of the ICC World Cup 2019.
The legendary wicket-keeper batsman is yet to feature a contest since the above game. Selectors have said that they want to promote youngster Rishabh Pant. Last month, Dhoni broke his silence over his future by asking fans to keep calm till January.
In that case, we have to wait and see if he will the upcoming series against New Zealand scheduled to take place in February or not. Meanwhile, It is clear that MS Dhoni will continue to feature in IPL matches till 2021.
