IND vs BAN, 1st Test: Ex-India cricketer Aakash Chopra has lauded Rishabh Pant for his batting performances in the longest format. Talking about Pant, who scored a hundred in his comeback Test match, Chopra reckoned that he always saw the young wicket-keeper batter perform brilliantly in the shortest format but he has been at his absolute best in Test cricket, just like Virender Sehwag.
Hailing from Delhi and playing for Delhi Capitals, Rishabh Pant became one of the upcoming talents for Indian cricket. He scripted history when he was quite young as he led the team across the line against Australia at the iconic Gabba.
Chopra revealed that Pant's story is exactly like that of Sehwag, who is the country's greatest Test batter as he created brilliant batting records which are yet to be broken.
"He reminds you of Virender Sehwag. When you watched him play, you felt he would be the T20 king but he shone the most in Tests. Rishabh Pant's story is also similar thus far. It seems with the way he plays, he would be destroying the most in T20s, but he doesn't allow you to bowl here (in Tests)," Aakash Chopra was quoted as saying on Colors Cineplex.
He also talked about Pant's comeback in the longest format and admitted that comebacks are more challenging but Pant made it look straightforward.
"Comebacks are always more difficult than debuts because you have already seen a lot, in and out, ups and downs, everything has happened with you. People also judge you a little quickly when you are making a comeback. The comeback was also due to some other reason," he concluded.
Both Pant and Shubman Gill stitched a brilliant partnership of 167 runs by scoring centuries each and helped the team post a mammoth target of 515 runs. At stumps on the third day, the Najmul Hossain Shanto-led side needed 357 runs to win the match with six wickets remaining.
