AFG vs AUS ICC Champions Trophy 2025: The groundsman present at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore had a hard time in the group stage match between Afghanistan and Australia on Friday. Rain didn't play a spoilsport during the first innings when Afghanistan was batting. But it began raining from 7 p.m. local time and it made sure that the match had to be abandoned.
The ground staff worked hard to get the field ready in time and were seen clearing the water so that it became safe for the players to play the match again. But their efforts went in vain as around 8:50 p.m. local time, the on-field umpires decided to call off the match. The deadline for a 20-over match was 10:11 p.m.
Amidst all this, a video had gone viral on social media where a groundsman was seen falling on his back when he was trying to clean the ground. When he used the wiper to try and clear the water, he slipped and he then fell.

Australia qualify for the Champions Trophy semis
When the match got abandoned due to incessant rain, it was the Steve Smith-led side that qualified for the semifinals for the first time in the ongoing mega-event after 16 years. While batting first, Afghanistan posted a respectable target of 273 runs. Sediqullah Atal starred with the bat as he scored a gritty knock of 85 runs in which he smashed six fours and three sixes.
After his dismissal, Azmatullah Omarzai, who took a five-for against the Jos Buttler-led side, scored 67 runs off 63 balls. Ben Dwarshius was the pick among the Australian bowlers as he registered figures of 9-0-47-3, whereas Spencer Johnson and Adam Zampa took two each.
Travis Head gave the team a flying start, as he scored a quickfire knock of 59 runs off 40 balls. They were 109/1 after 12.5 overs and thats when rain stopped the match.
England will have to beat South Africa by a huge margin of 207 runs to help Afghanistan reach the semis or chase down the target in 11.1 overs.
