The Rajasthan Royals (RR), the 2008 Indian Premier League (IPL) champions, are reportedly on the cusp of a change in ownership, with two global alliances engaged in a fierce bidding war for a stake in the franchise.

Manoj Badale, a British-Indian businessman, leads the Royals as its primary owner.

As per a report in Money Control, ArcelorMittal, the global steel behemoth, has reportedly entered the fray to acquire a majority stake in the Rajasthan Royals, with the 2008 IPL champions aiming for a valuation exceeding USD 1 billion.

“After picking up a stake in NBA team Boston Celtics as part of a consortium, the Mittal family is keen on bolstering its sports portfolio with a prized Indian asset and feels this was a good opportunity. They are bullish on this space as a group," the publication quoted a source as saying.

"Post due diligence, the deadline for submission of binding bids for Rajasthan Royals lapsed in the early hours of March 17. At least four parties have submitted proposals," the report quoted another source as saying.

Meanwhile, the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) sale is nearing completion, with two bidders remaining in the running, including the Swedish private equity firm EQT, which has tabled a significant offer, according to a report.

Rajasthan Royals will contest 14 league matches, splitting games between home and away venues, in the upcoming 2026 IPL season.
