M Chinnaswamy Stadium stampede: Ex-South Africa and Royal Challengers Bengaluru batter AB De Villiers was seen expressing his condolences for all the people who were affected by the stampede. A large crowd was seen outside the stadium where the felicitation ceremony was being held for the Bengaluru-based franchise who defeated Punjab Kings by six runs during the summit clash and thus lifted their maiden IPL title.
The completed mismanagement of the fans resulted in the death of 11 people and about 50 sustained injuries as a deadly stampede occurred outside the venue. Innocent people died in this unfortunate tragedy and a lot of cricketers also condoled the victims and their families. AB De Villiers too expressed his condolences and reckoned that his prayers were with those who were affected.
“My thoughts and prayers are with all those affected by the tragic events at the Chinnaswamy stadium today,” he had written on his official X account.
A lot of fans had come to watch their favorite team being felicitated as a special ceremony was being held at the venue. The felicitation, which had attracted about two lakh fans at the stadium, which had a capacity of just 35000, was reduced to just 20 minutes when the organizers were told about the incident happening outside.
As the number of fans grew, the situation became out of control. It led to a stampede, where seven people had initially died and a lot of fans had sustained injuries. A video had gone viral on social media where policemen were seen carrying an injured fan towards an ambulance and the other was lying unconscious as the other fans ran for help.
Almost all the Royal Challengers Bengaluru were present for the felicitation ceremony, including skipper Rajat Patidar, and Virat Kohli along with support staff like head coach Andy Flower, Dinesh Karthik, and others.
The Bengaluru-based franchise too had released a statement about the tragic incident expressed condolences for all the people who died and revealed that the felicitation event was shortened as soon as when they came to know about the stampede situation happening outside the venue.
