IND vs BAN: Legendary Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir, who is known for his no-nonsense attitude both on and off the field, has had successful stints both as a batter and the part of the support staff. In IPL this year, he guided KKR to their third IPL title after being with LSG for a few years, who too qualified for the playoff twice under his guidance.
On the back of his successful stints in IPL, Gambhir then became one of the top candidates to replace Rahul Dravid as the head coach of the Men in Blue and eventually became the head coach in July this year.
His first assignment was the white-ball series against Sri Lanka which turned out to be a topsy-turvy experience as the Men in Blue did win the T20I series against Sri Lanka but lost the 50-over format to the same opponent. And now he is preparing for the first Test series as the head coach with a two-match Test series against the Bangla Tigers, which would begin next week at the M.A. Chidambaram stadium.
Ex-India all-rounder Ajay Jadeja has reckoned that the Men in Blue won't have a dull moment with Gambhir as the coach since he is someone who always wants to ensure that the game strives in the right direction.
“It is very clear, that his (Gambhir) approach is aggressive. One thing is sure, there will never be a dull moment with him around, he will always try something. He will do what he believes", Jadeja told reporters at an event.
“He (Gambhir) will not be somebody who will sit back and let things flow. He will be out there, he will try things like we saw Suryakumar Yadav becoming captain suddenly. I am looking forward to the excitement we are going to see this year,” he revealed.
He was also asked as to what advice he would like to Gambhir, to this he said that he is hopeful that Gambhir won't take anyone's advice.
“I hope he does not take suggestions. The reason why he is there is because of what he did and how he looks at it. I hope he does not take anybody’s advice and change his approach because what has made you who you are is something that you should believe in and stick to. He can always get better," he concluded.
