Pat Cummins' led Australia retained the Ashes after the fourth Test ended in a draw with rain playing a spoilsport in the final day of the thrilling Test in Manchester on Sunday.

The weather didn't allow even a single ball to be bowled on the decisive day of the match where England needed five wickets to dismiss the Aussies who were still 61 runs behind in their second innings.

However, Australia captain Cummins understandably was satisfied with the result and said that their preference was to win an Ashes series in England and will just focus on doing that in the final Test match, set to be played at The Oval.

"Our preference is to come over here and win the Ashes. Not the greatest of circumstances but happy to retain it now. What happened today doesn’t really change how we look at the next game. It’s been an amazing group, we all turned up here very motivated. Will be a special week at the Oval," Cummins said at the post-match presentation.

"In the last year or two, [I've dreamed of lifting the urn]. It'll be special, but more special if we get a win," Cummins further added.

Cummins accepted being outplayed by the hosts in Manchester and said that no plans worked against the English side in the fourth Test.

"England batted really well, we tried a couple of plans but it didn’t work. We weren’t at our best so we’ll look at that," Cummins said. He also accepted that he was not up to the mark in the Test match.

The fast bowler also praised Marnus Labuschagne who answered all the critics with his 11th Test century and eventually saved the team from a defeat.

"Marnus was fantastic with Marsh yesterday. He got to show his class out there. We all turned up here to win the series, retaining the Ashes is nice but we’re fully focussed on winning it," Cummins concluded.
