Aside from the Rahul-Iyer situation, the selection committee will also discuss the team's spin bowling options. Currently, the squad features Ravindra Jadeja and Axar Patel as left-arm spinners, while Kuldeep Yadav is a consistent presence as a chinaman bowler. 

There are also speculations that Jasprit Bumrah might be appointed Rohit Sharma's deputy in ODIs moving forward in place of Hardik Pandya. 

As per reports, the squad for the Asia Cup 2023 will be announced live on Star Sports and Disney+Hotstar. The provisional squad for ODI World Cup could be announced as well.

Recently, Suryakumar Yadav admitted that his numbers in ODI cricket have been 'poor. Suryakumar scored only 78 runs in the ODI series in West Indies and is averaging just 14.11 in ODIs in 2023. 

As per report, India head coach will also join Ajit Agarkar and Rohit Sharma in Delhi for the Asia Cup squad discussion. 

The selectors will also consider the input of the Indian team management in regards to Shreyas Iyer's inclusion, as his return could provide stability to the unsettled number four spot in the batting lineup.

The selectors are particularly concerned about Rahul and Iyer's match fitness, given the intensity and demands of 50-over games. They want to ensure that the players can perform at their best without risking further injury.

In addition to Rahul and Iyer, Jasprit Bumrah's fitness status, as he is currently in Ireland, will also be assessed. 

To provide accurate updates on their conditions, Nitin Patel, the head of sports science and medicine at the National Cricket Academy (NCA), has been summoned to provide insight. As per another report, Patel has provided a positive feedback on fitness of both the players.

As per a report in The Indian Express: The selection committee is set to evaluate their fitness reports closely to determine their readiness for international matches. 

Star batters KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer, who have recently undergone surgeries for their respective injuries, are working hard to make a comeback to competitive cricket. It will be interesting to see if either of them make the Asia Cup squad.
