Pakistan have made a change to their Asia Cup 2023 Squad with just a few days remaining at the start of the tournament.
Middle-order batter Saud Shakeel has been added to Pakistan's Asia Cup squad with Tayyab Tahir named as the travelling reserve.
Shakeel wasn't a part of the initial 17-member squad and was the 18th member of the ODI squad for the Afghanistan bilateral series. Tahir, who was initially in the squad, didn't play a game in the three-match ODI series against Afghanistan. He will travel with the team during the Asia Cup as a reserve player.
Shakeel made his return to the ODI side in the Afghanistan series but got to play just one match and scored nine runs in that match.
He was in remarkable form in the recently concluded Test series against Sri Lanka and played an absolutely stupendous knock of unbeaten 208 runs in the first innings of the first Test in Galle.
Saud Shakeel was once again effective in the second Test in Colombo as he scored a brilliant 57 runs that came in a winning cause as Pakistan clinched the series 2-0.
Pakistan will begin their Asia Cup campaign against Nepal in Multan on August 30.
However, their much-anticipated clash remains against India as both teams will lock horns on September 2 in Pallekele.
Asia Cup 2023, which will be played in the One Day International (ODI) format, will commence on Wednesday, August 30, and the summit clash will be held on Sunday, September 17.
The tournament will be played among six teams that are divided into two groups. India, Pakistan, and Nepal form Group A while Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan are placed in Group B.
