India and Pakistan faced off in the third match of the ongoing Asia Cup 2023 at Pallekele International Cricket Stadium on Saturday.
The high-voltage Clash of the Titans ended with a disappointing result as the game was suspended due to persistent rain at the venue.
Despite having the on-time start amid all the weather concerns, the contest witnessed multiple rain interruptions during the first innings as well.
India, after winning the toss, had a horrible start as the top order failed to make it count to leave the team struggling at 66/4 before Ishan Kishan and Hardik Pandya joined each 0other.
The duo put up a crucial partnership of 138 runs for the fifth wicket and rescued the team from massive trouble.
Both scored their respective half-centuries and helped the team reach a challenging total of 266 runs before the team was bowled out in 48.5 overs.
For Pakistan, all the 10 wickets were taken by the pacers. Shaheen Afridi was the pick of the bowlers with his figures of 4/35 while Haris Rauf and Naseem Shah bagged three wickets each.
No play was witnessed after the first innings as continuous rain didn't allow the match to proceed and the game was called off after enough amount of wait. Both the teams shared one point each with Pakistan making it to the Super Four stage.
After the third match of the tournament between India and Pakistan, Babar Azam-led Pakistan stand at the top of the Group with three points to their name and have qualified for the next round. India, who kicked off their campaign on Saturday, are second on the table whereas Nepal stand third.
Coming to Group B, Sri Lanka are at the top of the points table after their win over Bangladesh in the second game. The change in the points table will happen after the Afghanistan vs Bangladesh game which will take place on Sunday (3rd September).
