AUS vs SA 1st T20I: Before the series opener against South Africa, Australia's star all-rounder Glenn Maxwell is on the cusp of entering an elite list of those players who have scored 2500 runs and have taken 50 or more wickets in the shortest format. Australia will lock horns with South Africa for the 1st T20I on Sunday.

Maxwell is just four wickets shy of achieving this feat of taking 50 wickets in the shortest format.

He can become just the fourth player in T20I's history to have scored more than 2500 runs and take 50 or more wickets along with Bangladesh's Shakib-al-Hasan (2,551 runs and 149 wickets in 129 matches), Pakistan’s Mohammed Hafeez (2,514 runs and 61 wickets in 119 matches), and Malaysia’s Virandeep Singh (3,013 runs and 97 wickets in 102 matches).

His highest individual score in this format was 145 runs. He has taken 46 wickets at a brilliant average of 30.08, and he registered his best figures of 3/10.

Maxwell has played in five T20Is during 2025, where he has scored just 90 runs at a below-par average of 18.00 and a strike rate of more than 195, where his highest individual score was 47 runs and he has taken three wickets at an average of 21.00, and his best figures were 2/15.
