AUS vs SA ICC WTC Final 2025: Australia's star all-rounder Beau Webster, who was the standout performer on Day 1 was seen heaping praises on their bowling lineup as they had a flying start during the WTC final against South Africa at Lord's on Wednesday. Even though South Africa's star pacer Kagiso Rabada took a five-for, it was Australia, who dominated on the first day on the back of a brilliant comeback by their bowlers.

Webster played a huge role as he scored a gritty knock of 72 runs and anchored the innings along with Steve Smith, who too scored 66 runs. Their stable partnership helped Australia post a target of 212 runs and that target looked respectable during the second innings.

"Our bowling attack has been so strong for several years now. We know if we can’t do it with the bat, our bowlers will do it. Outstanding from the boys," Webster told broadcasters during the post-match presentation on Day 1.

Australia's star pacer Mitchell Starc took Aiden Markram's wicket during the first over. He registered brilliant figures of 2/10 and triggered South Africa's top-order batting collapse. Batters like Ryan Rickleton, Tristan Stubbs, and Wiaan Mulder were dismissed cheaply as the Temba Bavuma-led side ended the first day at 43/4.

Kagiso Rabada had taken a five-wicket haul and helped the Proteas dominate during the first innings but they suffered a batting collapse and succumbed under pressure. Skipper Temba Bavuma and David Bedingham were in the middle and it was Bedingham, who had smashed consecutive fours in Pat Cummins' over and they will have to bounce back on the second day to stabilize the innings.

Even though South Africa suffered a batting collapse, Australia's late comeback with the bowlers has put them in the driver's seat on the first day at Lord's.
