Australia have recalled pacer Michael Neser for the upcoming two-Test series against New Zealand to support their frontline pace trio led by captain Pat Cummins. Neser, who has played two Tests, has been in Australia's set-up in recent years and was also part of the World Test Championship final squad against India last year.
Despite not having a great show at Sheffield Shield this season with nine wickets at an average of 50.33, selectors find him suitable for New Zealand conditions with the added advantage of batting skills.
"It's great to see Michael Neser get another opportunity in the squad following his ever-consistent performances over a long period of time and the conditions we expect," national selector George Bailey said.

Neser was picked over Lance Morris in the squad as Scott Boland is the other backup pace bowling option for the visiting side.
Cummins will lead the pace bowling group with Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood as his bowling partners.
"We'd be looking at a different type of fast bowler. The luxury of this tour only being in New Zealand, it's not a massive trip, so a number of players in specific roles that if we do need to get them across that it's not too much of a challenge, so Lance would have been in that boat," Bailey said.
Steve Smith will continue to open for Australia in the upcoming series alongside southpaw Usman Khawaja after replacing retired David Warner at the top. Cameron Green filled Smith's no.4 spot while Matt Renshaw retained his place in the squad as a reserve batter.

On the other hand, New Zealand toppled Australia from the top of the World Test Championship table after a thumping win over South Africa in the first Test. Kiwis will look to consolidate their lead at the top in the second Test in Hamilton.
"As we know every Test match provides vital opportunities to obtain valuable WTC points and we expect this tour will be a tough challenge against a very strong side who have been so consistent at home for a long period of time," Bailey said.
