Pakistan limited-overs captain Babar Azam received a rousing reception from fans at the Iqbal Stadium in Faisalabad ahead of the Champions One-Day Cup.

A video that quickly went viral on social media showed fans going wild with excitement when they caught a glimpse of Babar, the Stallions' key player.

As soon as Babar waved at the crowd, they erupted into chants of "Babar Babar", demonstrating their immense admiration and adoration for the skilled right-handed batter.

Babar will play a vital role in a team led by Mohammad Haris, who also captains the Pakistan Shaheens. The Stallions will open its campaign in the Champions Cup with a clash against Shaheen Shah Afridi-led Lions on September 13.

The lively reception Babar received from the fans suggests that Pakistani cricket enthusiasts are eagerly anticipating his performance in the upcoming tournament.

Babar Azam has been going through a tough lean patch for over the last one and a half years. He was also criticised heavily by the former and current Pakistan players for his poor form and Pakistan's failed campaign at the T20 World Cup in the West Indies and United States.

Babar did not have a great time in the Test series against Bangladesh, which they lost by 2-0. In the two Test matches, Babar could only score 64 runs at a strike rate of 43.53 and an average of 16. Notably, Babar's last half-century in Test cricket came in January 2023.

Following Pakistan's disappointing exit from the 2023 ODI World Cup, Babar relinquished his captaincy. However, he was re-appointed as captain after Shaheen Shah Afridi, who was appointed as captain, faltered in the New Zealand tour.
