BAN vs WI 1st ODI: West Indies captain Shai Hope won the toss and opted to field against Bangladesh in the first ODI of the three-match series at the Shere Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka on Saturday.

Bangladesh were clean-swept 3-0 by Afghanistan in their last ODI assignment. Soumya Sarkar and Mahidul Islam have been called up for this series.

The West Indies, fresh from a 2-1 home series win over Pakistan in August, will look to build on that momentum.

The last time these two teams clashed in ODIs was December 2024, when West Indies dominated with a 3-0 whitewash on home soil.

Speaking at the time of toss, Hope said, "We are gonna bowl first, unfamiliar conditions, so we will let the bowlers take the first strike. Very quick turnaround, it's been hectic in the last two months, we need to adapt quickly and make sure we give our best. It's more of a continuation for us; we last time we played against Pakistan and defeated them. We have three seam bowling options and three spin bowling options."

Bangladesh captain Mehidy Hasan Miraz, "Yes, we love to bat first as well. It's a new day, the players need to understand their role and I hope everybody does better. We have two fast bowlers, three spinners and seven batters."
