Bangladesh Cricketers Call Off Boycott But Still Want M Nazmul Islam To Apologise

The Cricketers’ Welfare Association of Bangladesh (CWAB) ended its boycott of BPL 2026 on Thursday after concluding late at night with the BCB. The BPL will begin on Friday evening.

The players wanted M Nazmul Islam, who is the director of BCB, to resign for making a controversial statement about them. Nazmul had revealed that BCB won't face any financial loss if they don't come to India for the 2026 T20 World Cup, and that only the players will be affected by this loss, and they won't be compensated.

At the same time, he also slammed the ‘crores and crores of taka’ spent on the players and also questioned their performance and asked them to give the money back. The BCB then sacked Nazmul from the finance committee.

“Keeping the greater interest of cricket in mind, we will resume playing tomorrow (on Friday). They (the BCB) have assured us that they will reach out to him (Nazmul) and fulfil our demands as early as possible," Mohammad Mithun, who is the president of CWAB, told reporters in the press conference.

As per ESPNcricinfo, the players who were protesting welcomed this decision but still want an apology.

The board had stayed away from Nazmul's statement and expressed ‘sincere regret’. After being sacked as the finance committee member, Nazmul is still BCB's director.

Iftekhar, who is BCB's director, has revealed that he has been serving a ‘show cause notice’ and has been given two days to respond.

“We follow our constitution, and according to it, we have sent him a show cause notice. He has been given 48 hours to respond, which will end at noon on [Saturday]. Then it will go to the disciplinary committee, as per the constitution, and the process will continue. We tried to contact him throughout the day. We wanted to bring him here, but we couldn’t reach him," he said.

Nazmul had called Tamim Iqbal an Indian agent, one of the main figures of this controversy. The BCB won't be going to India for the World Cup owing to security issues after fast bowler Mustafizur Rahman was released from the IPL.
