Virat Kohli lit up the ODI World Cup 2023 with his remarkable batting performance and ended up as the highest run-getter to help the Indian team reach the finals.
Despite being one of the most decorated batters of all time across formats Kohli is not the first choice in India's T20I XI, anymore. With the T20 World Cup set to be played in June 2024, the discussion has quickly shifted from ODIs to T20Is.
BCCI had a five-hour review meeting after the World Cup final in the presence of captain Rohit Sharma, head coach Rahul Dravid, and the selection committee led by Ajit Agarkar.

There was also a roadmap presented by the BCCI officials for the T20 World Cup 2024 in the West Indies and the USA.
India have only six T20Is in hand ahead of the marquee event, three in South Africa and three against Afghanistan at home - before finalising the squad for the T20 World Cup.
According to a report in Dainik Jagran, while Rohit and Bumrah are automatic choices in the XI, Kohli's spot in the T20 World Cup squad is not guaranteed.
The BCCI officials and the selectors presented in the meeting informed Rohit that they want him to lead the Indian side in the T20 World Cup.
Notably, both Rohit and Kohli haven't been part of the T20I team since India's defeat in the semi-final of the T20 World Cup in 2022.
With Rohit shining and smashing 597 runs at a strike rate of 125 at the top of the order, the selectors are keen to have him as the skipper at another ICC event.
On the other hand, there is still no clarification over Kohli's future in the shortest format of the game.
Despite setting the World Cup on fie with more than 700 runs Kohli is is currently not the preferred choice at No.3 in T20Is.
There were also discussions over the potential replacement for Kohli in T20Is as they want a player who can play attacking cricket and Ishan Kishan's name appeared as the frontrunner for the No.3 spot.
The left-hander played a couple of good knocks batting at that position in the recently concluded home series against Australia.
Either Yashasvi Jaiswal or Shubman Gill is likely to partner Rohit at the top of the order while the other will be named as a backup opener.
Even if Kishan may not be the option, then the likes of Suryakumar Yadav, Rinku Singh, Hardik Pandya, and Ravindra Jadeja will bolster the batting depth.
As per these arrangements, it looks like there's no place for Kohli in the T20Is anymore.

However, the selectors and other senior members of the board will reportedly have a discussion with Kohli soon regarding his plans for the T20Is.
Kohli is not part of the white-ball leg on the South Africa tour along with Rohit and Jasprit Bumrah but the trio will return for the two-match Test series.
