The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) unveiled the India A squad for a two-day warm-up match and the initial multi-day game against England Lions slated to begin on January 12.
Abhimanyu Easwaran, the seasoned Bengal cricketer, has been appointed captain of the India A squad, featuring in a 13-member lineup. The encounter will be preceded by a two-day warm-up fixture in Ahmedabad on January 12-13, leading up to the main event at the Narendra Modi Stadium from January 17-20.
The squad includes names like Sai Sudharsan, Rajat Patidar, KS Bharat, and Navdeep Saini. Having recently concluded a tour of South Africa, where India A engaged in a couple of unofficial Test matches resulting in draws, the team now gears up for the challenge against England Lions.
During the South Africa series, Bharat captained the squad, with Easwaran as a part of the lineup. However, the upcoming series against England Lions sees Easwaran taking the reins as captain.
Pradosh Ranjan Paul, a key player for the series, showed his form by emerging as the highest run-scorer for India A in South Africa, amassing 163 runs in the opening unofficial Test.
Looking ahead, the England Lions have already announced their squad for the tour, with Lancashire player Josh Bohannon leading the side. Fast bowler Ollie Robinson, a part of both the England Lions and the senior team set to face India in a five-match Test series starting on January 25 in Hyderabad, adds depth to the visiting team's lineup.
