Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma will return to action for India in the 2026-27 home season, during which the team is set to play 9 ODIs. Having retired from Tests and T20Is, the star cricketers now focus solely on ODIs as they prepare for the 2027 ODI World Cup in Africa.

The Indian team's home season will begin in Trivandrum, where they will lock horns with the West Indies for the 1st ODI of the three-match series. This matchup will set the tone for the packed season ahead.

India is set to play nine ODIs, eight T20Is, and five Tests before the Border-Gavaskar Trophy series against Australia. The West Indies, Sri Lanka, Zimbabwe, and Australia will tour India for the 2026-27 season.

After the home series and the IPL, India will lock horns with Afghanistan in a one-off Test and a three-match ODI series, to be held in June and part of the 2025-26 season.

Following the IPL, India will play Afghanistan in a one-off Test and three ODIs in June as part of the 2025-26 season. Then, the team heads to England for a three-match ODI and five-match T20I series, followed by tours of Sri Lanka for two Tests in August and New Zealand for two Tests, three ODIs, and five T20Is later in the year.

As a result of this schedule, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma are expected to participate in about 18 ODIs in the next year.
