The BCB (Bangladesh Cricket Board) finally put all speculations around their participation in the T20 World Cup to rest, announcing their withdrawal from the tournament after the ICC (International Cricket Council) rejected their request to shift their matches out of India due to safety concerns. BCCI's (Board of Cricket Control in India) office-bearers, who have maintained silence over this issue, continued their stance as President Mithun Manhas deliberately ignored a question from reporters on Thursday.

Manhas, who reached Raipur for the second T20I between India and New Zealand, was probed by reporters at the airport regarding this matter, but the latter stated that he is in the city to attend the game between India and New Zealand.Check out the video here:

After their withdrawal, Bangladesh are likely to lose their spot to Scotland, who will qualify by virtue of being the next best team as per the latest ICC ranking. Notably, ICC was forced to issue an ultimatum to Bangladesh to confirm their participation or else forfeit their points. Also, making changes in the original schedule a few weeks before the start of the tournament would have turned out to be a possible logistical 'nightmare' for the governing body based in Dubai.

Won't Travel To India: BCB Sports Adviser

Bangladesh’s sports adviser, Asif Nazrul, stated that they won't travel to India, and it is the government's decision not to play in India due to security concerns.

Nazrul said that there is no opportunity to reverse the decision to travel to India to participate in the T20 World Cup. He mentioned that the ICC and the Indian government failed to convince them on security concerns in India.

The T20 World Cup will kick off on February 7, with Bangladesh scheduled to kick off their T20 World Cup 2026 campaign on February 7 against two-time champions West Indies at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. As per the original schedule, the Litton Das-led side will then face Italy on February 9 at the same venue before facing England in Kolkata again. After facing England, Bangladesh are scheduled to travel to Mumbai to play Nepal at Wankhede Stadium.
