History of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy
The inaugural Border-Gavaskar Trophy match was played during the 1996-1997 season in Delhi, with Sachin Tendulkar leading the Indian team. That series consisted of just one Test match, which India won.
As of 2024, India has held the upper hand, winning 10 series out of 16. Australia has won five, and one series ended in a draw. The tally includes India’s recent 2-1 victory on home soil, which allowed them to retain the trophy. During 2017, 2018-19, 2020-21, and 2022-23, India won four consecutive Border-Gavaskar Trophies consecutively.
