India squad for Border-Gavaskar Trophy: Players who missed out on selection

Ruturaj Gaikwad: Ruturaj Gaikwad couldn't make it to the senior side for the Australia tour. However, he has been named the skipper for India A for the Australia tour.

There were heavy speculations regarding the possibility of his selection after he recently scored a hundred against Mumbai in the Ranji Trophy.

Kuldeep Yadav: Kuldeep will also not travel to Australia, having been in the Indian team during their last two Test series wins there.

BCCI explained the reason behind his exclusion," Kuldeep Yadav was unavailable for selection for the tour of Australia since he has been referred to the BCCI Centre of Excellence after the end of the ongoing Test series against New Zealand for long-term resolution of his chronic left groin issue."

He was dropped from Inddia's playing XI for the second Test against New Zealand in Pune.

Axar Patel: The star all-rounder was a huge contender for making it to Australia, having impressed with impactful contributions in all departments over the past few months.

He did not get to play any of the two Tests against Bangladesh and was benched against New Zealand as well.
Washington Sundar was included in India's Test squad for the tour of Australia ahead of him.

Shreyas Iyer: Shreyas last played a Test for India during the series against England earlier this year.

The selectors decided to retain KL Rahul and rewarded Sarfaraz Khan for his impressive rise in the middle-order.

Shreyas Iyer recently scored a hundred against Maharashtra and also led India D in the Duleep Trophy.

Mohammed Shami: The race against time couldn't end well for Shami as he continues to recover from injury and has been ruled out of the Australia series.

There were heavy talks about whether the star pacer would achieve full fitness in time. Shami last played for India last year in the ODI World Cup.

Cheteshwar Pujara, Ajinkya Rahane and Ishan Kishan are a few other names who will not be part of the India vs Australia Test series.

Both Rahane and Pujara played key roles in India's last two Test series wins in Australia. However, the trio has been out of reckoning for a while now.

Kishan, on the other hand, has been named in the India A squad for the Australia tour, while Rahane and Pujara are playing in the Ranji Trophy 2024-25.
