JE Sports Desk: Gujarat Titans (GT) pace bowler Yash Dayal found himself in a controversy on Monday, June 5 for posting a displeasing story. Dayal taking on his Instagram shared a post regarding Love Jihad on his story and later deleted it.
The post was related to the Shahbad Dairy murder case, in which a 16-year-old girl Sakshi was stabbed over 20 times before being bludgeoned with a cement slab by the accused Sahil Khan, eventually killing the victim on the spot.
The Uttar Pradesh pace-bowler faced heavy outrage for spreading hate.
Dayal, who came into the limelight in Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 for conceding five sixes against Rinku Singh earlier this season in a match against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) was quick to cover it up with a following post featuring Virat Kohli and Shubman Gill before he issued a clarification.
After receiving an immense backlash over his deleted Instagram story, Dayal apologised saying that the story was posted by mistake and requested everyone not to spread hate.
"Guys apologies for the story, it was just posted by mistake. Plz, don't spread hate. Thank you. I have respect for each & every community in society, Dayal wrote in his latest Instagram story.
Multiple users on social media suggested that Dayal should have been responsible while sharing such disturbing posts considering he play alongside the likes of Mohammed Shami, Noor Ahmad, and Rashid Khan for Gujarat Titans in IPL.
Some fans even urged his IPL team Gujarat Titans to take action against him as he is a contracted player with the franchise.
However, Dayal issued another statement a few hours later denying his actions and saying his social media account possibly getting hacked and he reported the same to authorities.
"There were two stories posted on my Insta handle today - both of which weren’t done by me. I have reported the matter to authorities as I believe my account is being accessed by someone else and used for posting. I am trying to regain full control of my Instagram account.
I respect all communities and the picture shared today does not reveal my true beliefs.
Thank you,
Yash Dayal"
The 25-year-old played only five matches this season for the Titans picking up just two wickets. He fell ill and lost 6-8 kgs after Rinku's onslaught in the KKR game confirmed later by GT skipper Hardik Pandya.
He did not return to the side for nearly a month but did manage to make a comeback in the last two league games before getting dropped again for playoffs and final as well.
