The social enterprise Grow-Trees.com is partnering with Jagran New Media, the digital wing of Jagran Prakashan Limited (JPL) for a unique initiative, where IPL fans can donate trees as a token of love for cricket and the national animal. This initiative is a 'greener' and ‘creative’ way for people to express their love for their favourite IPL Teams and players.

By logging into the Jagran-Grow-Trees co-branded microsite, cricket lovers can select their favourite team and the number of trees they plan to dedicate to this green initiative. A tree will cost only Rs. 85, and users can select any number of trees for the Trees for Tigers project that Grow-Trees is implementing in Simlipal National Park, Odisha.

Not only individuals, but fan clubs can also join this initiative by planting trees with a simple click on this website. Grow-Trees will also issue specially designed 'eTreeCertificates' to individuals/groups. The cricket-themed certificate will feature the branding of the IPL team to which the tree is dedicated, logos of Grow-Trees and Jagran along with the location of the tree, which will help users identify them later and ensure that the trees are properly taken care of.

Commenting on the initiative, the co-founder of Grow-Trees.com, Mr Pradip Shah said, "IPL, of course, has become one of the grandest annual sporting events in the country. The fan following of all ten teams is also phenomenal. Through this tie-up with Jagran, Grow-Trees is committed to providing passionate fans with an opportunity to not only cheer for their favourite IPL team but also participate in the efforts to protect the natural habitat of tigers and be a part of biodiversity conservation, which are the key objectives of the Trees for Tigers project. Under the Trees for Tigers project, plantation activities will be carried out in Asana, Kuchilaghati, Kendua, Rangamatia, and Gundihudi in Mayurbhanj District in Odisha. The major species that will be planted include Karanj, Shisham, Mango, Earleaf Acacia, Lemon, Jackfruit, Teak, Amla, Simarouba and Mahanimba."

Rajesh Upadhyay, Editor-in-Chief of Jagran New Media, highlighted the role of this initiative, stating, "We are thrilled to collaborate with Grow-Trees.com on this impactful initiative. By partnering with Grow-Trees, we are not only fostering a greener future but also empowering cricket enthusiasts to make a tangible difference in protecting our environment. This collaboration shows our commitment to encourage and connect our diverse audiences for meaningful environmental action, and we are excited to see its positive impact on biodiversity conservation efforts."

Meanwhile, the initial 10 matches of this year’s IPL alone have attracted over 35 crore viewers on TV. Now, with the tournament entering the playoff stages, not only has viewership increased, but the competition has also intensified. And once the playoffs start, Grow-Trees will plant one tree for every dot ball, at its own cost, during the matches. On average, a minimum of 100 dot balls are expected to be bowled in a match, and since there will be four matches including the qualifiers and finals, a minimum of 400 trees will be planted during the last leg of the competition.
