CSK vs PBKS, IPL 2025 Highlights: Punjab Kings Beat Chennai Super Kings By 4 Wickets

Yuzvendra Chahal bags his hattrick after he dismissed MS Dhoni, Deepak Hooda and Anshul Kamboj to bundle out CSK to 190.

After Marco Jansen bagged the prize wicket of Sam Curran, MS Dhoni lit up Chepauk with brisk one four and six however he lost his wicket off Yuzvendra Chahal's delivery. CSK 184/6 in 18.2 ov.

An incredible over for CSK comes to an end. The situation now stands at 10 an over. Shegde has been smoked for 26 runs in an over. Sam Curran is batting incredibly well. 

Sam Curran and Dewald Brevis are keeping the run-rate around 9. Make no mistake, this is a sluggish track where the ball is stopping on the wicket. PBKS have to restrict them under 180 to make a match out of this.

Two young players - Dewald Brevis and Sam Curran are in the middle. One of them have to bat till the end in order to set up a good total for PBKS. With dew coming in, no total remains safe.

"I don't know I'm coming for the next game (laughs). One of the things is the pride factor. Majority of the games you play at home. Home advantage is very important which we haven't been able to capitalise on. Same team. We've been a side where we don't make a lot of changes. But this season we've made a lot of changes. Reason is simple. If most of your players are doing well, then you chop and change 1-2 players. But this season it hasn't worked for us. It's also the first season after a fresh auction. So you have something in mind but you have to see where a batter is suited better."

Punjab Kings won the toss and elected to bowl first against Chennai Super Kings.

At 43, Dhoni has shown glimpses of his legendary finishing skills but despite being a shrewd tactician, he is struggling to field a winning combination on the field. Rachin Ravindra too has been inconsistent at the top. The struggles of Ravindra Jadeja, Ravichandran Ashwin and Matheesha Pathirana haven't helped CSK's cause either.

Priyansh Arya and Prabhsimran Singh have been in good form for PBKS while opening the batting and the onus would be on left-arm pacer Khaleel Ahmed to contain the duo. In skipper Shreyas Iyer, PBKS have got a batter, who can control the pace of the game, but CSK would rely on Afghanistan spinner Noor Ahmad to deliver the goods.

CSK's young recruit Ayush Mhatre, who grabbed eyeballs on his IPL debut, will look to put on a strong display when he takes on Arshdeep Singh in the powerplay. Another entertaining battle is expected to be between Shivam Dube and Yuzvendra Chahal in the middle overs. 

It has been a disappointing season for five-time champions CSK, languishing at the bottom of the table with just two wins out of nine games.

PBKS, on the other hand, are placed fifth in the standings with five wins from nine matches and would look to rise up with a victory against a demoralised CSK side, which failed to get its combinations right so far in the season.

Facing likely playoff elimination due to poor performance, Chennai's coach and captain are already focussing on next season. This was evident in their recent team selection, which included several young players, shifting away from their older squad. While mathematically still in playoff contention, Chennai's priority is now developing young talent, especially after positive showings from some of them. The latest addition Brevis, was expected to demonstrate his potential.
