England Cricket Team vs Australia Men's Cricket Team Match Scorecard: Australian speedster Mitchell Starc put on a dominant show in his opening spell on Day 1 of the ongoing first Test at Perth, getting rid of the top three batters, much to the delight of the packed crowd at the Optus Stadium on Friday. Electing to bat first after winning the toss, England lost their opener Zak Crawley (0) to a delivery outside the off-stump as Starc removed him in the first over itself.

It was the seventh instance where Starc struck in the first over of a Test match in his career.

Ben Duckett tried to counter-attack Starc with a couple of deliveries but got struck on the crease on a seaming delivery, hitting him beneath the knee roll. Duckett sent it for referral, but to no avail, as the decision stayed.

The most important wicket for Australia was also fetched by the left-armer as he removed England's batting mainstay Joe Root for a duck, as he could face only seven deliveries.

England 105/4 After 23 Overs

At the time of reporting the story, England lost their number three batter, Ollie Pope, to all-rounder Cameron Green. Pope scored a valiant 46 with four boundaries. Currently, Harry Brook and captain Ben Stokes are in the middle at the stroke of lunch.

The English, trying to win a Test in Australia for the first time since 2010-11, opted for an all-pace attack led by Jofra Archer and 35-year-old Mark Wood and left spinner Shoaib Bashir out of the XI.

Opening batter Jake Weatherald and Brendan Doggett are making their debut for Australia.

Steve Smith, leading Australia in the absence of Cummins, said the replacement bowlers were "quality performers."
