England vs India 2nd Test: India maintained their dominance with the bat and reached 419/6 in 110 overs in their first innings at lunch on the second day of the 2nd Test against England on Thursday.

Shubman Gill kept going and put up yet another batting masterclass as he remained unbeaten on 168 runs. India lost just one wicket and scored 109 runs in the first session. Just before the lunch break, Ravindra Jadeja was dismissed for 89 runs as he missed out on his century. Josh Tongue provided the only breakthrough to the hosts.

India resumed from 310/5 with Gill and Jadeja adding 104 more runs to the overnight total and ended up stitching a 203-run partnership for the sixth wicket. After Jadeja's dismissal, England bowlers tried to attack Washington Sundar with the short ball stuff, but the left-handed batter managed to survive.

Gill looked in no discomfort and went past the 150-run mark, also reaching his new high score in the longest format of the game. The star batter will be looking to continue with the same temperament and smash his maiden Test double century.

Amid bright sunshine at Edgbaston, Jadeja resumed his innings with a crisp back-foot punch through the cover and a cut off Ben Stokes. Gill got his first boundary of the day through the third man region before cover driving Chris Woakes.

It was surprising to see Gill play the reverse sweep off spinner Shoaib Bashir. Later in the session, Gill also swept Bashir for a six behind square. Jadeja too got into the act and stepped out to smash Bashir for a maximum over mid on.

Stokes set an interesting field when Washington Sundar joined Gill in the middle, employing a leg slip and two close in fielders on the leg-side. The extra bounce that Tongue was able to generate posed an immediate threat to Sundar.
