England vs India 2nd Test: India produced a promising effort with the bat to reach 98/2 in 25 overs in their first innings on the first day of the second Test against England at Edgbaston in Birmingham on Wednesday.

India lost the crucial wicket of Karun Nair just a few balls before the break. He was dismissed by Brydon Carse for 31 runs. However, Yashasvi Jaiswal has looked in remarkable touch and maintained his remarkable Test record against England with another magnificent fifty. He remained unbeaten on 62 runs, which he scored on the back of 11 fours. Skipper Shubman Gill was at the other end on 1, having just arrived at the crease after the fall of the second wicket.

India were off to a cautious start as England started well with some tight bowling from Chris Woakes, who unleashed some trouble for the openers a few times. He found success soon, dismissing KL Rahul for just 2 runs in the ninth over.

After a hesitant start to his innings, Karun opened his hands with a flurry of boundaries, which also took pressure off Jaiswal. The duo attacked the English bowlers after the first hour of play and picked up some interesting boundaries. They added 80 runs for the second wicket before Karun's dismissal. The star batter had smashed five boundaries but couldn't control his shot while facing Brydon Carse's bouncer.
