England vs India 5th Test: Rohit Sharma arrived at the Kennington Oval to enjoy the action of the third day of the ongoing India vs England 5th Test on Saturday.

Yashasvi Jaiswal and Akash Deep resumed India's second innings from 75/2 and the duo came up with a remarkable effort to take the score past the 150-run mark. Akash Deep frustrated the English bowlers and headed towards his maiden fifty, whereas the lead went past the 100-run mark.

During the first hour of the play, India's ODI captain Rohit Sharma was seen entering the stadium. Notably, Rohit isn't part of the Test team any more, having announced his retirement from the format ahead of the England tour. A week later, Virat Kohli also retired from the longest format of the game. Both legends are now only active in ODIs.

Rohit, who was India's captain in the 2024/25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy, had dropped himself for the fifth Test of the series due to his below-par form. Rohit confirmed that he would continue to lead India in Tests and would play red-ball cricket again. However, four months later, he gave up Test cricket, ending his promising career with 4301 runs to his name in 67 Tests. Under his captaincy, India made it to the World Test Championship final in 2023 but lost against Australia at the same venue.

He and Virat retired from T20Is after winning the 2024 World Cup. They are confirmed to play the 2027 ODI World Cup. Earlier this year, Rohit captained India to a title win in the 2025 Champions Trophy.

Talking about the match, India were bowled out for just 224 runs in their first innings after being put into bat first. Karun Nair was the top run-getter for the visitors, having scored 57 runs, whereas Gus Atkinson took an impressive five-for.

England were off to a magnificent start and put the Indian bowlers under pressure on the back of a fiery 109-run opening partnership between Zak Crawley and Ben Duckett. India bounced back in the second and third sessions to bowl England out for 247 runs as Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna took four wickets each.
