England vs India 3rd Test: Shubman Gill scripted history as he smashed yet another incredible record during the ongoing third Test between India and England at Lord's on Sunday.
Gill has been in incredible form with the bat in the ongoing five-match Test series against England. He had a disappointing outing during India's second innings on the fourth day. However, he had done enough to break Rahul Dravid’s record of scoring the most runs in a Test series for India in England.
During the India tour of England in 2002, Dravid played four matches and amassed a total of 602 runs in six innings. Gill, on the other hand, has 607 runs to his name in six innings of three matches.
Gill, who scored 16 runs in the first innings of the Lord’s Test, needed only two runs to break Dravid’s record in the second innings, and he achieved the objective by scoring two runs on the last ball of the 13th over bowled by Brydon Carse. However, he was dismissed for just 6 runs as Carse hurt India massively during their run chase of 193 runs.
Most Runs In A Test Series For India In England
Shubman Gill (2025): 607 runs in 3 matches
Rahul Dravid (2002): 602 runs in 4 matches
Virat Kohli (2018): 593 runs in 5 matches
Sunil Gavaskar (1979): 542 runs in 4 matches
Rahul Dravid (2011): 461 runs in 4 matches
Gill, who already has scored three centuries in the series, is 45 runs away from breaking Virat Kohli's record in the list of most runs scored in a Test series as an Indian captain.
During the India-England Test series in 2016, Kohli played five matches against England and amassed a total of 655 runs. On the other hand, the overall record of scoring the most runs as captain for India in a Test series is held by Sunil Gavaskar. During the 1978-79 India-West Indies Test series, Gavaskar scored 732 runs in six matches.
At the end of day four, India were reduced to 58/4 in their second innings with Brydon Carse (2/11), Ben Stokes (1/15) and Jofra Archer (1/18) taking wickets for England. India still need 135 runs to win the Lord's Test and go 2-1 ahead in the series.
