ENG vs WI 3rd T20I: England's star opener Ben Duckett scored a match-winning knock of 84 runs off just 46 balls and helped the hosts clean sweep the three-match T20I series against West Indies after winning the third T20I by 37 runs. Duckett has smashed 10 fours and two sixes and had set a great platform for England to post a mammoth target of 248/3 in Southampton. West Indies' Rovman Powell also scored a gritty knock but his efforts went to waste as they fell short and could only score 211 runs England's white-ball skipper had a flying start to his captaincy by winning consecutive series. "It was a great pitch to bat on. The ball didn't do a great deal and Jamie Smith looked to put pressure straight from the start. The way he took down the seamers made my life easier," Duckett told broadcasters during the post-match presentation, who was also being adjudged the Player of the Match award.
"I try and keep it pretty simple as people know. You try to play a bit more expansive shots in T20 cricket but I try to stick to my strength throughout" he added.
After defeating the West Indies by 3-0 in the ODI series, England's batting lineup once again put up a dominating performance during the T20I series.
Jamie Smith, who opened along with Ben Duckett, had scored 60 runs off 26 balls and had smashed four fours and five sixes.
They had stitched a partnership of 120 runs for the first wicket and then skipper Harry Brook scored an unbeaten knock of 35 runs and Jacob Bethell too scored 36 runs off 16 balls.
Bethell had smashed three huge sixes in Gudakesh Motie's over and the hosts had leveled their record T20I total at their backyard.
England's star fast bowler Luke Wood registered match-winning figures of 3/31 in the four overs that he bowled and spinner Liam Dawson took West Indies' opener Ewin Lewis and Johnson Charles wickets, who scored nine runs apiece. Thus the visitors suffered a top-order batting collapse.
West Indies skipper Shai Hope did score a gritty knock of 45 runs but then Brydon Carse dismissed him.
Powell had smashed nine fours and four sixes during his 45-ball knock but the damage had already been done by then and England won the series.
