Ben Stokes, the marquee player for the Chennai Super Kings in the 2023 IPL season, has undergone successful knee surgery following a limited stint in the tournament. Stokes, who became the most expensive buy for the Super Kings at INR 16.25 crore, played only two games in the season due to a left-knee injury that had flared up during England's tour of New Zealand earlier in the year.

The injury forced Stokes to start the IPL season as a specialist batter, and he managed to play just two games, scoring 15 runs and bowling only one over. The Chennai Super Kings, led by Stephen Fleming, opted to prioritize Stokes' recovery and wait for him to be "100% ready" before reintroducing him to the bowling duties. Check out the statement here:

Despite his limited IPL participation, Stokes played a crucial role for England in the T20 World Cup, featuring in six out of nine games. During the tournament, he emerged as England's second-highest run-scorer behind Dawid Malan, accumulating 304 runs in six innings, including two half-centuries and a century. Notably, Stokes did not bowl during the World Cup.

The successful knee surgery signifies a step towards Stokes' rehabilitation, and it remains to be seen when he will return to competitive cricket. The focus will likely be on ensuring his full recovery before resuming all-round duties for both England and the Chennai Super Kings in future cricketing assignments.
