Pakistan's current opener, Sahibzada Farhan, who made news for filming a 'documentary' for hitting Indian talisman Jasprit Bumrah for a couple of sixes during the Asia Cup last year, is under fire for his recent comments. In a rapid-fire questionnaire, which went viral on social media, Farhan claimed that he would pick Pakistan batter Ahmad Shahzad over legendary Sachin Tendulkar. The questionnaire also included names like Virender Sehwag, Rohit Sharma, and his compatriot Saeed Anwar.

Reacting to his statement, former Pakistan cricketer Basit Ali bashed him for his stance in a conversation with former batter Kamran Akmal in a video.

“This is fake. Hundred percent fake," Basit, with folded hands, said on the YouTube channel, The Game Plan. Sahibzada Farhan has not gone mad so far that he picks Ahmed Shehzad over Sachin Tendulkar. “I plead with you to stop this topic. I promise you all, whenever I meet Sahibzada, I will ask him, ‘Were you in your senses that day?’ I promise.

Whoever asks you a question regarding Sahibzada’s pick, tell him that Basit Ali and Kamran Akmal apologise for it. We ask for forgiveness for Sahibzada’s mistake," he said.

Shahzad, who featured in 153 games for his country across formats, failed to bank on a promising career. On the other hand, Tendulkar and Sehwag command a place in the hearts and minds in the minds of Cricket fans, not just because of their runs or achievements but also for the impact they created with their game.

Former Pakistani cricketer Kamran Akmal joined in as he tendered a light-hearted apology on Farhan's behalf.

“He (Farhan) is a cricketer, he should think. He talked about his idol, but saying that Ahmed Shehzad is better than Saeed Anwar and Sachin Tendulkar is not right. It’s okay that he thinks that way, but he should give his answer properly. We apologize to Sahibzada for this mistake."

Farhan is 'infamous' for celebrating with gunfire after scoring a half-century against the Men in Blue in the politically-charged Asia Cup in 2025.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) filed an official complaint with the International Cricket Council (ICC). However, Farhan only received a warning and no financial penalty.
