PBKS vs SRH IPL 2026: Punjab Kings skipper Shreyas Iyer has transformed the team into a contender for the current season's trophy, delivering standout performances throughout the group stage. He now aims to secure the franchise's maiden title after 19 years. Shreyas has helped teams like Delhi Capitals, Kolkata Knight Riders, and Punjab Kings reach finals and has guided KKR to their third championship.
Former India all-rounder Irfan Pathan said Shreyas could eclipse legendary players like MS Dhoni and Rohit Sharma if he leads Punjab to the trophy.
“Among MS Dhoni, Rohit Sharma, and Gautam Gambhir, I believe Shreyas Iyer deserves recognition as one of the best captains," Irfan Pathan remarked on JioStar.
He stressed that adapting to a new team and shifting its mindset, as Shreyas has done, is challenging. He also pointed out that Dhoni, Rohit, and Gambhir have not won multiple trophies as captains.
“Leading three different franchises to finals is tough. Each team has a unique culture, structure, and mentality," he emphasized.
“Adapting and leading these teams is demanding. No one else has done it. MS Dhoni won all five trophies with CSK, though he played for other franchises," he added.

“Similarly, Rohit Sharma won all his trophies as captain with MI, and Gautam Gambhir did so with KKR. Shreyas Iyer has taken three franchises to finals and clinched one with KKR. If he secures another with Punjab, he will surpass all," he concluded.
PBKS, IPL 2025 runners-up, currently lead the table with 13 points after nine matches and are close to qualifying for the playoffs.
