India vs Australia 5th Test: After India's disappointing defeat in the Test series against Australia, head coach Gautam Gambhir shared his take on the future of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma heading forward.

While India lost the Border-Gavaskar Trophy for the first time in 10 years with a 1-3 series defeat, both Rohit and Kohli had a horrible tour to Australia with the bat.

Gambhir seemed to have kept himself aside from the clarity over criticism of senior India batters saying that still has the "passion" and "hunger."

"I can’t talk about the future of any player. It’s up to them as well," he told reporters in the post-match press conference after India’s six-wicket loss to Australia in Sydney.

"What I can say is that they still have the hunger, they still have the passion, they are tough people.

"And hopefully they can continue to take it and bring it forward. But ultimately, as we all know, whatever they plan, they will plan for the best."

Having scored a memorable century in the Perth Test which India won, Kohli ended the five-match series with just 190 runs to his name at an average of 23.75.

After the Perth Test, Virat's highest score was 36 in the next seven innings and was dismissed almost in similar fashion throughout the series as Australia mocked him with the outside off stump trap.

Meanwhile, captain Rohit Sharma, who missed the Perth Test because of the birth of his second child, managed only 31 runs in three Tests, before he decided to opt out from the fifth Test in Sydney.

Yashasvi Jaiswal (391 runs) was the top-scorer despite three ducks followed by young all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy (298 runs), KL Rahul (276 runs) and Rishabh Pant (255 runs).

There is uncertainty that looms over the future of Virat and Rohit in the longest format and it seems that the team management along with the BCCI selectors might sit with the duo and have a deep and conclusive talk.

After the win in Perth, India lost the pink ball Test in Adelaide by 10 wickets but managed to draw the third match in Brisbane. Melbourne was India's best chance which they missed out on before getting outclassed in Sydney once again.

Australia chased down the 162-run target and wrapped things up well inside three days in the fifth and final Test of the series.
