IND vs ENG 4th Test: The Men in Blue are currently trailing in the five-match Test series by 2-1 after losing the third Test match. It should be noted here that they had lost both those matches in which Bumrah was a part of the playing XI. The records have also highlighted that they have won 70 percent of the Test matches when Bumrah isn't playing, and just a little more than 40 percent of those matches they had won when Bumrah played.

Ex-Australian skipper Greg Chappell has reckoned that the Shubman Gill-led side should end their obsession with Jasprit Bumrah. While writing for a column at ESPNCricinfo, Chappell emphasised that cricket is a team sport and the visitors will only win matches when they perform as a team.

He revealed that the discussion around Jasprit Bumrah grabs all the unnecessary attention and puts focus on the wrong things during a high-octane series.

"And a word on Bumrah: the obsession with whether he plays or doesn't is missing the point. India has won plenty of Tests without him recently. The key is not individual brilliance; it's collective performance. Teams win when everyone does their job. When the captain makes sure each player is clear, confident, and committed to the plan. That's the formula," Greg Chappell was quoted as saying on ESPNCricinfo.

Time for Gill to define his brand

Chappell highlighted that the upcoming fourth Test match in Manchester would define skipper Shubman Gill's abilities, who will aim to set the right standard for the side.

"If Gill wants to become a great Test captain, this is his moment to stamp his authority not just with the bat, but with his leadership. Set the standard. Demand it of others. Pick your team. Back then. And make sure every man knows what is expected and hold them to it," he added.

The ex-India coach urged the fans that cricket wasn't about heroes but about partnerships amongst players, who try to push each other.

"Because in the end, cricket isn't about heroes. It's about partnerships. It's about teams. And it's about captains who bring the best out of those around them. If Gill can lead with clarity of thought and strength of purpose, he won't just shape this series, he'll shape the future of Indian cricket," he concluded.
