However, with Iyer at the helm and a reunion with head coach Ricky Ponting, the team hopes for a fresh start under experienced leadership.

Meanwhile, Gujarat Titans captain Shubman Gill, who also serves as India’s ODI vice-captain, will be eager to turn things around after a challenging 2024 IPL season. Under his leadership, GT finished in eighth place, a stark contrast to their title-winning campaign in 2022 and runner-up finish in 2023 under Hardik Pandya.

Both Iyer and Gill enter the IPL in excellent form, having played key roles in India’s Champions Trophy triumph earlier this month in Dubai. Iyer emerged as India’s top run-scorer in the tournament with 243 runs in five matches, while Gill made a significant impact, scoring a century in the opening match against Bangladesh.
