Independence Day 2025: Virat Kohli, the star Indian cricketer, was quick to wish the nation on its 79th Independence Day. Kohli took to Instagram and lauded our forces for making the country secure.

"Today, we smile in freedom because they stood with unwavering courage. We salute and honor the sacrifices of our heroes on this joyous Independence Day. Proud to be Indian. Jai Hind," read his post.

India's current ODI captain Rohit Sharma also celebrated the Independence day. He posted the image of him carrying the Indian flag at the Kensington Oval in Barbados after India had beaten South Africa to win the T20 World Cup last year. Rohit posted the image with a simple salute emoji on his X account.

Other Indian cricket stars also posted their messages for Independence Day. Sachin Tendulkar posted a picture of him with the Indian flag with a simple message.

"Happy Independence Day! Jai Hind!" read the message from Tendulkar.

India's Test captain Shubman Gill, who had a memorable outing in England, also wished everyone on the Independence Day. Gill-led India produced a remarkable performance in the five-match Test series against England which ended in a 2-2 draw. The right-handed batter smashed a plethora of records and smashed 754 runs in 10 innings on the back of four incredible centuries.


All Eyes On Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma's ODI comeback

There's has been a lot of talk around the future of Rohit and Virat in the ODI cricket after their respective retirements from the T20I and Test cricket.

While there is still an uncertainty over the veteran duo playing the ODI World Cup 2027, they face a tough task in maintaining their prime form until then. According to the initial schedule, India will play only nine ODIs from October till the next IPL, just nine international match days.

Several reports have claimed that Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma need to play the Vijay Hazare Trophy to enhance their chances.

Virat and Rohit are two of the finest ODI players produced by India, with Virat having made 14,181 runs in 302 matches and 290 innings at an average of 57.88, with 51 centuries and 74 fifties. His best score is 183. On the other hand, Rohit has scored 11,168 runs in 272 matches and 265 innings at an average of 48.76, with 32 centuries and 59 fifties and a best score of 264.

Both the legendary batters were last seen playing for India during the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 which the Men in Blue won.
