Asia Cup 2025: Will India star pacer Jasprit Bumrah miss another important international tournament? Due to the hectic schedule and his workload management, the Men in Blue might miss the services of their star fast bowler for the Asia Cup 2025, which would be held in September in the UAE.

Jasprit Bumrah left the Indian Test team on Friday during the ongoing Test series. He had played in three Test matches and even though the visitors need to win the fifth Test match to level the series, which is being currently held at the Oval, but he still wasn't included in the playing XI as the team management stuck to their original workload plan, where he was supposed to play three of the five matches.

Bumrah To Prioritise Tests?

The Asia Cup 2025 would be held between September 9 and 28 in the shortest format. Initially, the tournament was supposed to be held in India, but owing to the political tensions with Pakistan, the UAE became the neutral venue.

The Men in Blue will also lock horns with the West Indies for a two-match Test series from October. If India reaches the summit clash of the continental tournament, then Bumrah will get just two days to get the much-needed rest and prepare for the Test series against the West Indies, and that's a highly unlikely situation owing to his workload management.

“It will be a tricky call, but Bumrah loves Test cricket and there are World Test Championship points at stake. As far as T20 is concerned, he can play the series against New Zealand in January, which will be a dress rehearsal for the T20 World Cup," a source told PTI.

“If Bumrah plays Asia Cup and suppose India plays the final, no way can he play against the West Indies at Ahmedabad. The question arises, do you need Bumrah against the West Indies, or should he play the Asia Cup after a month’s break and play the two Tests against South Africa? That call, Ajit Agarkar and Gautam Gambhir will have to take," the source said.

Bumrah To Miss Another Major Tournament?

After 2022, Bumrah has missed four major tournaments owing to back injuries. During 2022, he was ruled out of the Asia Cup due to a back injury and the T20 World Cup owing to back pain, as he had sustained a back injury in the ODI series against England. He also had to undergo surgery way back in January 2023 and was ruled out of the IPL that year and the WTC final as well.

Earlier this year, he had picked up another back injury during the five-match Test series against Australia, which kept him out of action for a few months, and he thus gave the Champions Trophy 2025 a miss.
