The ongoing Ranji Trophy season witnessed history as Hyderabad batter Tanmay Agarwal became the player to hit the fastest triple hundred in first-class cricket when he scored 300 in their match against Arunachal Pradesh on Friday.

Tanmay was in a remarkable touch as he took just 147 deliveries to achieve that feat and remained unbeaten on 323 off 160 balls at stumps.

He played a historic knock on the back of 33 fours and 21 sixes and stitched an incredible opening partnership of 449 runs with skipper Gahlaut Rahul Singh in just 40.2 overs.

Gahlaut was too brilliant with the bat as he smashed a magnificent century but missed out on the double ton, getting dismissed on 185 runs.

He smashed 26 fours and three sixes for his marvelous knock before getting dismissed for 185 runs by Techi Doria.

The player shattered a 39-year-old record held by Indian legend Ravi Shastri along the way by also scoring the fastest double-hundred in first-class cricket in 119 balls.

On the back of Agarwal’s record-breaking knock and outstanding opening partnership with Gahlaut, Hyderabad reached 529/1 at the end of Day 1 of the fourth round of Ranji matches.

Earlier, the record for the fastest triple hundred in first-class cricket was held by Marco Marais while playing for Border against East Province in 2017.

He scored 300 off 191 balls but Tanmay brought an end to his record six years later.

The 28-year-old also became the first player to score 300-plus runs in a single day in the history of the Ranji Trophy.

The unbelievable display of batting from Hyderabad helped them take a massive lead of 357 after bowling Arunachal out for 172 runs in their first innings.

Techi Doria was the top run-getter for Arunachal as he scored unbeaten 97 runs with Divyanshu scoring 29 runs.

No other batter managed to even touch the 20-run mark as they were bowled out in 39.4 overs.

For Hyderabad, Chama Milind and Kartikeya Kak picked up three wickets each with Tanay Thyagarajan picking up two wickets.

They got promising support from Elligaram SankethPalakodeti Saketh Sairam as the duo ended up taking a wicket each as well.
